About the Awards


The POPAI SA Awards recognises excellence in point-of-purchase advertising displays and in-store communication activity produced and placed in South Africa.

In a glamorous event held at the Capital Empire in Sandton on 12 November 2015, seven Point of Purchase (POP) manufacturing companies walked away with gold in the 2015 POPAI SA Awards. The evening brought together the who's who of the point of sale industry in South Africa, as we rewarded those displays that stood out over the past 12 months.

The coveted Display of the Year award non-campaign was awarded
 in Gold went to Fishwicks Printers for their Bar One Cereal Launch entry. Silver was awarded to Hewitt & Associates for their Kit Kat Newspaper Stand. Display of the year Campaign was awarded in Gold went to POD Communications for their Jungle Oats Winter campaign.

The awards covered 14 categories, including digital media in retail (DMiR) and were open to any designer or producer for point-of-purchase (POP) material placed between 1 August 2014 and 30 June 2015. Every entry was judged on a number of aspects, including marketing objectives and strategies, innovation, construction, use of retail space and communicative value. The evening saw 38 awards being announced. The overall high caliber of the entries made the judging process extremely difficult. Ultimately a deserving group walked away with the honours.

We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all the companies and brands who received an award on the evening. It is through your hard work and dedication over the past year that the standard and profile of the retail marketing industry in South Africa continues to be raised. POPAI SA will be working to ensure that these standards are maintained and enhanced into 2016.

In February 2016 we will be accompanying a group of the 2015 South Africa Gold Award winners to Las Vegas, America where they will be competing in the POPAI Global Awards. We are confident that in 2016 we will return home with a number of Global Awards. We will keep you informed on the progress.

Information to enter the Awards 

What can be entered?
  • Any display with a production run of 50 units or more (lower run for category 13) designed or manufactured by a South African producer for either an international or domestic customer may be entered. Displays designed or manufactured in South Africa for export are also eligible.
  • Entries must have been produced and shipped between 1 August 2015 and 30 June 2016. However, yearly programmes such as automotive campaigns scheduled for the 2015/2016 model year are eligible.

Who can enter?
  • Any designer or producer of P-O-P material, agencies, brand owners, services companies and retailers.
  • The Awards are open to both POPAI members and non-members.
